I installed this double din in a 2003 Mercedes. It had to have all of the wiring ran to the speakers, and a custom kit built. The OEM 6 disk changer was hidden behind the hazard bezel. When i pulled it out, it looked like a good place to put the A/V expansion module. That left room for an iPod, or some other MP3 player next to it.
Putting in this Double Din took a little effort. Looking at the two pics you can see where the changes were made to get it installed. After cutting out the plastic between the A/C and the radio, the notches left behind had to filled in. I did this using C/A glue and ABS. there was no body filler used.

This customer had tracked me down outside of work. He had found my name on the Top 100 installers list in Car Audio and Electronics. He wanted me to build this box for him in his Trailblazer. Since I do not do side work, I quoted him a good price on the box and then had him bring it to me at Mobile One.   Now most installers usually have a "bad day" this day i was having an aweful one!
When it was finished, it fit the bill of all of the customers requirements and looked real good.
I wish I could say, I spend all of my time doing full on custom work, but i would be lying. A lot of times I am doing basic stuff, but try to find a way to spruce it up a little. Here is a down fire box for a customer. He wanted it on the floor just behind his center console. I gave it to him just like he wanted, but i chose to cover it in matching vinyl.

Tuesday December 6, 2005 started as any other day at Mobile One (I-10/East location). Rob Davidoski and Chuy Martinez started opening shop for the day when a customer called asking for directions to their location. It was Florida resident, Kelly Tadlock. After several conversations with Chuy earlier in the week, he had decided he wanted the Mobile One crew to install the system in his 2002 Toyota 4runner. He was so impressed, he decided to drive the vehicle over 19 hours to Houston, Texas to get the system installed. Kelly arrived just after Noon, and the install started just before 1pm. Rob Davidoski (Install Manager at the Uvalde/I-10 location) started removing the door panels for sound deadening. (Which turned out taking most of the time.) Rob, Jay Carballo, and Robert Sandlin soundproofed all five doors and installed Boston Acoustics pro components in the front and rear. Since the customer was serious about his sound, all of the Boston passive crossovers were installed with the amps behind the rear seats, giving Kelly access to the settings in the crossovers at any time. A Rockford Fosgate   T4004 powered the Boston mids and highs, and a Rockford Fosgate T3002 ran the Boston G2 12” woofer, that resided in a custom ported, removable enclosure. All of the mids and highs were installed behind factory grilles, and the cargo area is concealed by a factory cover to help deter theft.   This was done since the customer was keeping the use of his factory six-disk head unit.
    While the customer wanted to be left out of the photo (above), he insisted on showing his appreciation by buying everyone involved dinner. The entire job took almost 11 hours to complete, and had to be finished the same night (or morning, depending on how you look at it).

    Kelly had originally called to arrange the installation believing they were part of a Louisianna-based company known by the same name. The only problem was the phone number he had found online, was not to a Louisianna location. That number belonged to one of the Houston locations. Kelly decided to make the drive to Houston anyway, believing that the crew he had been talking to, were the only people he wanted working on his S.U.V.   This story is proof-positive that your first impression MUST be your best, even if it is over the phone from 19 hours away.
